The Castle Valley Fire District does a lot more than extinguish fires.

The fire district stands by when a property owner feels a little intimidated about burning their large pile of vegetation during the open burn season and asks for a standby when they torch the pile.

As their permit requires, the fire district personnel stand by during the annual fireworks display at Dewey each fall. The fireworks have been associated with the annual Moab Music Festival held at a Dewey ranch. They have been on standby for field burns in Professor Valley and Castle Valley and the district has also been requested during filming of movies and commercials in the area. Many times the request comes with a donation to the fire district.

This past weekend the district was asked to assist the annual Moab Canyons Endurance Ride, which was located off Highway 313 on a large tract of land under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Land Management. The event is sanctioned by the American Endurance Ride Conference, an organization that promotes horse endurance events nationally...
